چکیده
Abstract This paper describes the development and characterisation of bainitic steel for rail applications based on carbide-free, low-alloy steel. The results show that after rolling subsequently cooling, designed carbide-free exhibits better mechanical performance than standard pearlitic is because its fine, microstructure, which consists ferrite retained austenite laths. Microstructural property analysis was carried out using scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, hardness measurements, tensile low-cycle fatigue tests. obtained demonstrate during low cyclic deformation, a partial transformation into deformed martensite ? ? takes place, strain-induced martensitic occurs. initial strengthening material caused by increase in dislocation density In addition, an optimal amount form thin layers islands (dimensions not exceeding 1 µ m) made it possible to obtain high yield while maintaining plasticity These microstructural features also contributed crack resistance tested

The hot deformation behavior of a high carbon carbide-free bainitic steel was studied through isothermal compression tests that were performed on a Gleeble-1500D thermal mechanical simulator at temperatures of 1223-1423 K and strain rates of 0.01-5 s-1. The flow behavior, constitutive equations, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) characteristics, and processing map were respectively analyzed in de...
متن کاملEnhanced Thermal Stability in Nanostructured Bainitic Steel
We report an attempt at increasing the thermal stability of nanocrystalline bainite to tempering heat-treatments, by enhancing the silicon concentration of the alloy. Validation experiments have been conducted using synchrotron X-radiation during tempering heat treatment. It is found that the change in alloying successfully stabilises the austenite at elevated temperatures by retarding cementit...
متن کاملLow Frequency-saft Inspection Methodology for Coarse-grained Steel Rail Components (manganese Steel Frogs)
In the rail industry, sections of high strength Manganese steel are employed at critical locations in railroad networks. Ultrasonic inspections of Manganese steel microstructures are difficult to inspect with conventional means, as the propagation medium is highly attenuative, coarse-grained, anisotropic and nonhomogeneous in nature. Current in-service inspection methods are ineffective while p...

An experimental investigation with Nd:YAG laser system was carried out to study the effects of laser hardening process parameters on the microstructure and hardness during laser hardening of EN25 steel. The laser beam is allowed to scan on the surface of the work piece by varying the laser beam power (750–1250 W) and travel speed (500–1000 mm/min) of the work table. The microstructural features...
